President Lands in Bandar Abbas to Oversee Response to Port Explosion Crisis
On Sunday, President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Bandar Abbas to evaluate the serious aftermath of the massive explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port. His visit aims to oversee the response efforts at the scene and address the challenges arising from this tragic incident.
Before landing, the president performed an aerial survey of the explosion site. Upon his arrival, Pezeshkian spoke with reporters about his administration’s commitment to resolving issues related to Shahid Rajaee Port. He also visited a nearby hospital to meet with individuals injured in the blast.
The devastating explosion, which occurred on Saturday, has had a catastrophic impact, claiming at least 40 lives, injuring around 800 people, and leaving 6 individuals still missing. According to the public relations office of the Hormozgan Province Justice Department, the identities of 10 victims—including 8 men and 2 women—have been confirmed.
In light of this tragedy, provincial authorities have declared a period of three days of public mourning. During a meeting with local crisis management officials, Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni emphasized that all necessary measures are being implemented. He also noted that President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued directives to ensure a comprehensive response to the situation.
The explosion has caused extensive destruction in the surrounding areas, significantly impacting various industries in western Bandar Abbas. Shahid Rajaee Port, located along the Persian Gulf and near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, serves as Iran’s largest container hub, managing nearly 80% of the country’s container operations.
