In a shocking turn of events, a deadly attack in downtown Tehran has left two Supreme Court judges assassinated, prompting Iran’s Prosecutor General to initiate an immediate investigation. This incident has raised serious concerns about security and terrorism in the region.

On Saturday, Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Movahhedi Azad issued a directive to the Tehran prosecutor general to conduct a thorough and prompt investigation into the tragic event that unfolded earlier that day.

The Prosecutor General emphasized the urgency of identifying and apprehending those responsible for this act of terrorism. Here are some key developments following the incident:

  • Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir confirmed that arrests have been made in relation to the attack.
  • Jahangir reported that “some people have been identified, summoned, or arrested” as part of the ongoing investigation.
  • He also clarified that images of the assailant and his weapon circulating on social media are fake.

The tragic attack occurred during a busy morning in Tehran, targeting:

  • Hojjatoleslam Ali Razini, head of Branch 39 of the Supreme Court
  • Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Moqiseh, head of Branch 53

Both judges were known for their involvement in cases related to national security, espionage, and terrorism. Following the attack, the Judiciary’s media office released a statement indicating that an attempt was made to apprehend the gunman, who subsequently took his own life.
