Unveiling the 43rd Fajr International Film Festival Poster: A Sneak Peek into Cinematic Excellence!

The 43rd Fajr International Film Festival is set to captivate audiences this year with its vibrant celebration of cinema. The festival’s poster was unveiled on Saturday during a ceremony at the historic Tomb of Saadi in Shiraz, Fars Province. Designed by Mehdi Davaei, the poster prominently features a photograph by Jassem Ghazbanpour, showcasing the legacy of the esteemed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, a Palme d’Or laureate at Cannes.

During the unveiling ceremony, Raed Faridzadeh, the head of the Iranian Cinema Organization, emphasized the festival’s mission, stating, “The function of cinema is nothing other than creating a space where you can pause and reflect in silence through works that each narrate a part of our collective story. One of the great masters of world cinema, the late Abbas Kiarostami, who created such works and narrated a portion of our collective identity, is featured on this year’s festival poster.”

Faridzadeh expressed his pride in honoring Kiarostami, saying, “It is an honor for the festival to bear the name of Master Kiarostami. His unique style of storytelling has a deep connection with Iranian culture, thought, and language. I hope we will have a magnificent festival in the city of Shiraz.”

As the festival gears up, Faridzadeh met with the Leader’s Representative in Fars Province to discuss the event’s significance. “For many years, this festival was held in Tehran, and we decided to make use of the capacities of other regions of the country. What better choice than a province that has strong infrastructure and the ability to introduce a significant part of our religious and national identity?” he noted.

According to the memorandum of understanding between the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Governor of Fars Province, the Fajr International Film Festival will now be hosted in Shiraz. “Since the theme of this festival is ‘The Union of Poetry and Cinema,’ Shiraz is the best place in the country to host it,” Faridzadeh remarked.

Highlighting the festival’s international appeal, he shared that there is a notable interest among filmmakers to participate in the event. “More than 170 international guests will travel to Shiraz,” he stated. This year, the festival will also welcome ministers, deputy ministers, and film officials from 14 different countries.

Faridzadeh elaborated on the festival’s various sections, stating, “A special competitive section called ‘Broken Olive,’ dedicated to the children of Gaza and featuring nine films, will be held this year.”

In addition to the ‘Broken Olive’ section, the festival will include:

  • Eastern Vista
  • Discovering First-Time Filmmakers
  • Film Market

Aside from the film screenings, Faridzadeh mentioned that specialized panels focusing on Middle Eastern cinematic language and other film-related discussions will take place on the sidelines of the festival. This provides a platform for filmmakers and enthusiasts to engage in meaningful dialogues that enrich the cinematic experience.

The 43rd Fajr International Film Festival is scheduled to run from November 26 to December 3 in Shiraz, promising an exciting lineup of films and discussions that celebrate the intersection of culture and cinema.

As anticipation builds for this year’s festival, it is clear that the event will not only honor the legacy of Abbas Kiarostami but also serve as a vital gathering for international filmmakers and cinema lovers. With its diverse program and beautiful setting in Shiraz, the festival is poised to be a memorable celebration of film and storytelling.

In summary, the 43rd Fajr International Film Festival stands as a testament to the enduring power of cinema to connect cultures and evoke deep reflections on shared narratives. The festival promises a rich exploration of both Iranian and international cinematic art, making it a must-attend event for anyone passionate about film.

Join us in celebrating this remarkable festival and the cinematic legacy of one of Iran’s greatest filmmakers, Abbas Kiarostami, as we look forward to a week filled with creativity, inspiration, and unforgettable storytelling.
