Oman Counselor Highlights Medical Tourism Growth Opportunities in Shiraz

In recent discussions aimed at enhancing medical tourism cooperation, Haitham Al-Sanani, the advisor to the Omani Ambassador to Iran, met with Mohsen Ziaei, the Director of Fars Cultural Heritage Department. Their dialogue focused on maximizing the potential of Shiraz, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and unique medical tourism opportunities.

The importance of Shiraz as a prime tourist destination in Iran was highlighted by both parties. They acknowledged the city’s distinctive advantages in the healthcare sector, which have contributed to its rising status as a hub for medical tourists. In a broader context, the deputy tourism minister, Anoushirvan Mohseni Bandpei, announced in mid-August that a comprehensive medical tourism system has already been launched in three provinces: Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, and Fars. This initiative is set to expand throughout Iran shortly.

According to Bandpei, the system aims to:

• Integrate Services: Ensuring that all medical tourism services are interconnected for ease of access.
• Create Transparency: Establishing clear processes for health tourists upon their arrival.

He further elaborated that the Strategic Council of Medical Tourism initially implemented the system as a pilot project, which is now being tested experimentally in the aforementioned provinces. It is expected to roll out nationwide by the end of Shahrivar, the sixth month of the Iranian calendar.
