Oman Counselor Highlights Medical Tourism Growth Opportunities in Shiraz
In recent discussions aimed at enhancing medical tourism cooperation, Haitham Al-Sanani, the advisor to the Omani Ambassador to Iran, met with Mohsen Ziaei, the Director of Fars Cultural Heritage Department. Their dialogue focused on maximizing the potential of Shiraz, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and unique medical tourism opportunities.
The importance of Shiraz as a prime tourist destination in Iran was highlighted by both parties. They acknowledged the city’s distinctive advantages in the healthcare sector, which have contributed to its rising status as a hub for medical tourists. Below are key points discussed during their meeting:
- Medical Facilities: Shiraz is home to modern hospitals equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
- Specialized Medical Teams: The city boasts highly qualified medical professionals and specialists.
- World-Class Treatment Services: Shiraz offers health services that meet international standards.
Ziaei pointed out that the recent establishment of a comprehensive health tourism system is a significant step forward. This system will provide health tourists with:
- Access to Information: Health tourists can obtain complete details about authorized hospitals and health travel service providers.
- Service Requests: The system will directly accept service requests from potential medical tourists.
- Complaint Registration: Tourists will be able to register complaints regarding their experiences with travel service offices and medical centers.
To ensure the satisfaction and safety of medical tourists, Ziaei explained that all complaints will be managed through a robust legal framework and strict oversight. This approach aims to protect the interests of health tourists while enhancing their overall experience.
During the meeting, Al-Sanani expressed a keen interest in broadening collaborations in health tourism. He highlighted Shiraz’s potential to attract Omani tourists, emphasizing the need for stronger communication channels between Iran and Oman in this sector.
Both officials concluded their discussions by stressing the importance of:
- Joint Cooperation: Developing mutual initiatives to enhance medical tourism.
- Promoting Shiraz’s Medical Capabilities: Introducing the city’s healthcare offerings to Persian Gulf Arab countries.
- Facilitating Health Tourist Presence: Streamlining processes for Omani medical tourists to visit Shiraz.
In a broader context, the deputy tourism minister, Anoushirvan Mohseni Bandpei, announced in mid-August that a comprehensive medical tourism system has already been launched in three provinces: Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, and Fars. This initiative is set to expand throughout Iran shortly.
According to Bandpei, the system aims to:
- Integrate Services: Ensuring that all medical tourism services are interconnected for ease of access.
- Create Transparency: Establishing clear processes for health tourists upon their arrival.
He further elaborated that the Strategic Council of Medical Tourism initially implemented the system as a pilot project, which is now being tested experimentally in the aforementioned provinces. It is expected to roll out nationwide by the end of Shahrivar, the sixth month of the Iranian calendar.
Mohseni Bandpei noted that the system’s framework has been meticulously designed to facilitate collaboration among:
- The Ministry of Tourism: Overseeing tourism policies and strategies.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Managing international relations related to tourism.
- The Ministry of Health: Ensuring health regulations are upheld.
- Authorized Medical Centers: Providing services through their International Patient Department (IPD).
- Travel Agencies: Assisting with travel arrangements.
- Health Tourists: Catering to their needs and preferences.
- Doctors and Tour Guides: Offering professional support throughout the process.
- Translators: Bridging language barriers for better communication.
This comprehensive approach is designed to enhance the experience of medical tourists in Iran, ensuring they receive top-notch services while enjoying the rich cultural and historical offerings of Shiraz.
