In a significant diplomatic engagement, Iran’s Vice-President for Strategic Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, recently met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani. The discussions revolved around crucial developments in West Asia, particularly concerning Gaza and Syria.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, was officially confirmed by Qatar’s Foreign Ministry. Both leaders focused on several key regional issues, including:

  • Strategies to enhance bilateral relations between Tehran and Doha.

During the discussions, Zarif expressed his gratitude for Qatar’s pivotal role in facilitating a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, as well as the subsequent exchange of Israeli and Palestinian prisoners. Qatar, in collaboration with the US and Egypt, played a crucial role in brokering the Gaza ceasefire deal, which was announced on January 15 and took effect four days later. This three-phase ceasefire ended over 15 months of intense Israeli attacks on Gaza, allowing much-needed humanitarian aid to reach the besieged territory.
