Iran Embraces Any Practical Initiative to End Sanctions: A Call for Action

In the latest developments regarding Iran’s nuclear negotiations, Administration spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani emphasized the nation’s openness to any practical initiatives that aim to lift sanctions and uphold the rights of the Iranian people. This statement follows the recent conclusion of a second round of discussions with the United States.

Mohajerani expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations, stating that the talks have been positive thus far. “In the continuation of the talks, we welcome any practical initiative to lift the sanctions and ensure the rights of the Iranian people,” she mentioned.

The second round of negotiations took place in Rome, Italy, where both Iranian and U.S. negotiators reached an agreement to engage in further discussions shortly. This round followed previous talks held in Muscat, Oman, with the Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the U.S. team headed by Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy.

Key points discussed during the negotiations included:

  • The commitment to pursue talks within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • A focus on reducing tensions and establishing a platform for future technical discussions.
  • The ongoing challenges faced since the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 Iran deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Mohajerani concluded by reaffirming that the administration will remain focused on the essential task of governing the country while navigating these complex discussions. “The goal of these talks is to examine practical steps to reduce tensions and provide a platform for technical talks in the future,” she added.

Since the U.S. exited the JCPOA in 2018, initiating a “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, the country has remained committed to fulfilling its obligations under the agreement. The outcome of these negotiations could significantly impact the future of Iranian-American relations.
