Iran Advocates for Sanction Relief and Prisoner Swap at SCO Judicial Summit

Tehran, IRNA – The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit is set to address critical issues such as unilateral sanctions, prisoner transfers, and the extradition of criminals, according to Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi.

In a statement made on Tuesday, Gharibabadi highlighted that Iran is committed to pursuing proposals introduced by Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei during the 20th Meeting of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the SCO.

The ongoing visit of the Iranian judiciary delegation to China, which commenced on Monday, holds significant importance as it coincides with the attendance of judicial leaders from all SCO member states.

Key discussions at the summit will include:

  • Deepening legal cooperation among member countries
  • Strengthening counterterrorism measures
  • Legal actions against unilateral sanctions

Gharibabadi pointed out that several SCO member states face unilateral and unjust sanctions, emphasizing that addressing this issue will be a priority for Iran at the summit.

Furthermore, Iran aims to expedite prisoner transfers and enhance extradition agreements among SCO members, reinforcing its commitment to international legal collaboration.
