Fereydoun Shahbazian, a prominent Iranian musician, passed away at 82 in Tehran due to severe respiratory issues. Born on June 11, 1942, he was influenced by his violinist father and began his musical journey early on. A graduate of the Higher Conservatory of Music, he joined the Tehran Symphony Orchestra at 17 and later led the radio choir and symphony orchestra. Shahbazian significantly impacted film and television music, collaborating with various orchestras and composing for acclaimed films. He served as conductor of the National Orchestra of Iran from 2016 to 2019. His legacy will endure through his influential compositions and mentorship of future musicians.

Milkan Publications recently released the Persian translation of Susanna Clarke’s acclaimed novel “Piranesi” in Tehran. Originally published in 2020, the book has gained popularity for its imaginative storytelling and profound themes. It follows the enigmatic protagonist, Piranesi, through a labyrinthine House filled with unique statues and an ever-present sea. The narrative, presented as Piranesi’s journal, explores themes of isolation, imagination, and existentialism. Awarded the Women’s Prize for Fiction in 2021, “Piranesi” has also been adapted into a BBC radio drama and is set to be transformed into an animated film by Laika, directed by Travis Knight.
