Iranian MPs Unite in Strong Rejection of European Parliament’s Anti-Iran Resolution
In a significant political development, members of the Iranian Parliament have expressed strong disapproval of a recent European Parliament resolution targeting the Islamic Republic. This condemnation underscores the ongoing tensions between Iran and European entities regarding human rights and internal governance.
During the session on Monday, Iranian lawmakers released a statement addressing the resolution, stating: “The attack on the judiciary and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) reflects the adversaries’ plan to undermine the authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” They emphasized their commitment to human rights and justice, asserting that “The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to respecting human rights and ensuring justice for all its citizens, in accordance with domestic law and the principles of international law.”
On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution criticizing Iran for alleged systematic human rights abuses. In their response, Iranian MPs noted:
- “In a situation where two high-ranking Iranian judges have been martyred in a terrorist attack, the European Parliament has clearly interfered in Iran’s internal affairs by turning the facts upside down and thereby showing its support for terrorist groups.”
- Iran has been a victim of both organized and state terrorism, with many terrorist groups operating within its borders with backing from the European Union.
The Iranian Parliament asserted that the IRGC is a legitimate institution responsible for maintaining the country’s and region’s security. Lawmakers warned that any European attempts to classify the IRGC as a terrorist organization would elicit a strong response from Iran. They stated, “The Parliament will not remain silent in the face of disrespect towards the Iranian armed forces.”
Furthermore, Iranian MPs urged the European Parliament to recognize global realities and reconsider its confrontational stance towards the Iranian nation. Their call to action highlights the complexities of international relations and the pressing need for dialogue.
