Geneva Talks: E3 Diplomats Push for Sanction Relief with Iran
In the latest developments surrounding the Geneva talks, Iranian diplomats have highlighted their primary goal: the removal of Western sanctions on Tehran. This statement comes from Ebrahim Rezaei, a senior member of the Iranian Parliament, who spoke to reporters after a recent session of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
During this session, Foreign Ministry officials updated lawmakers on the progress made in the ongoing discussions with the E3—Britain, France, and Germany. Rezaei emphasized several key points:
- Response to Aggression: Iranian diplomats warned that any attacks on Iranian facilities would trigger a strong retaliatory response.
- Snapback Mechanism Warning: If other parties to the Iran nuclear deal activate the snapback mechanism against Iran, the country will invoke Article X of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and withdraw from the treaty.
- No Preconditions: Tehran firmly stated that it will not accept any preconditions in the ongoing Geneva talks.
