Despite a rise in rates among Persian Gulf nations post-COVID-19, Iran is enhancing newborn care with upgraded medical equipment and vaccination programs targeting diseases like rotavirus and pneumococcal disease. The recent inauguration of the Hakim Hospital in Tehran, equipped with 266 beds and advanced facilities, marks a milestone in pediatric care. These initiatives underscore Iran’s commitment to advancing child healthcare and improving health outcomes nationwide.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has launched a project in Iran titled “Improving Pistachio Production and Export through Establishment of Integrated Product Management.” This initiative aims to enhance pistachio production and export potential by addressing critical issues in the supply chain, focusing on safety and quality. Workshops led by FAO experts have trained about 60 stakeholders on mycotoxin management and best practices for production. In the fourth week of Bahman (February 8-14), Iran recorded 105 earthquakes, reflecting its ongoing seismic challenges, with 92 quakes below magnitude 3, 12 between 3 and 4, and 1 reaching 4. In March 2024, the World Food Program (WFP) reported its humanitarian efforts in Iran, focusing on food assistance for Afghan and Iraqi refugees, as well as local teachers. The WFP provided food aid to 33,269 beneficiaries, including staple food baskets and cash-based transfers to enhance financial stability. Notably, cash transfers for households increased, with additional support for refugee girls’ education and celiac patients. The WFP also facilitated livelihood activities, benefiting 329 refugees. Despite ongoing economic challenges, 70% of beneficiaries reported acceptable food consumption levels. The WFP continues to adapt its strategies to support approximately 35,000 refugees across 20 settlements.
