Salehi-Amiri: Students as the Key Guardians of Iranian Cultural Heritage

Iranian culture stands as a vibrant testament to centuries of history, and today it is entrusted to the younger generation for preservation and growth. This sentiment was expressed by Cultural Heritage Minister Seyyed Reza Saheli-Amiri during the inaugural ceremony of the academic year at Anoushirvan Dadgar High School on Tuesday. His remarks highlighted the vital role of education and cultural identity in shaping the future of Iran.

In his speech, Minister Saheli-Amiri conveyed the President’s greetings to all Iranian children, particularly the students of Anoushirvan Dadgar High School. He emphasized that the young generation requires hope and joy more than ever, stating: “We must all agree on one principle: Iran is our home, honor, dignity, and identity. If we are alive today, it is because of the blessings of Iran and Islam.”

One of the significant highlights of his address was the recent registration of the Prehistorical Sites of Khorramabad Valley on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This site, with an impressive antiquity of 63,000 years, serves as a powerful reminder that Iranian civilization has deep roots in history.

“We have two Irans: the geographical Iran in which we live and the cultural Iran whose roots extend beyond the borders of the region,” he elaborated. Drawing a parallel with nature, he remarked that just as leaves fall in autumn yet roots remain strong, Iran, too, is a robust entity that will always stand proud.

Minister Saheli-Amiri elaborated on the crucial role of students in preserving cultural identity: “Students are the main guardians of our history and civilizational identity. They are the trustees of the heritage for future generations and are considered the hope of today’s and tomorrow’s generation of Iran.”

Highlighting the historical significance of Anoushirvan Dadgar High School, he noted that the institution is nearly a century old and has been pivotal in educating girls. He referred to it as “a branch of a sturdy tree of education,” underlining its sanctity and value in the educational landscape of Iran.

In addition to Minister Saheli-Amiri’s remarks, Behshid Barkhordar, a Zoroastrian representative in Parliament, also emphasized the importance of education as the bedrock of development. She stated that Iran is a land steeped in history, where the concept of peaceful coexistence has been practiced for millennia.

Barkhordar further asserted: “Students should become more familiar with their historical identity, because along with respect for others, respect for the environment is also part of our cultural heritage. We have a duty to convey the right concepts to the younger generation and familiarize them with cultural heritage and civilizational identity.”
