President Pezeshkian: Upholding Human Rights is Key to Preventing War
The recent statements made by President Masoud Pezeshkian at the Tehran Dialogue Forum highlight the significance of respecting human rights in international relations. During his address, he emphasized the consequences that arise when individuals’ rights are overlooked, particularly in the context of global conflicts.
Speaking on Sunday, President Pezeshkian expressed profound concerns regarding the violence perpetrated by the Israeli regime against defenseless Palestinians. He stated:
“The Israeli regime and its supporters commit acts of violence by killing defenseless Palestinians and engaging in aggression against oppressed people.”
He further asserted that global turmoil is often rooted in the actions of powerful nations, noting:
“If powerful states refrained from invading other nations, wars would not occur.”
In his speech, Pezeshkian called for:
- Sharing achievements among nations
- Respecting the rights of people, animals, and plants
The president outlined his administration’s aims to foster constructive interactions globally, strengthen ties with neighboring countries, and maintain balance in foreign policy. However, he lamented that this vision has not been embraced by Western powers.
Pezeshkian also referenced comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Iran, raising critical questions about accountability in violence:
“Who is truly responsible for bombing houses and killing scientists and innocent people?”
He reiterated that Iranians have a long history of seeking peaceful coexistence with neighboring nations, despite efforts to incite discord among them.
On the topic of energy resources in the Persian Gulf, the president remarked:
“Without the energy of the region, the West would be paralyzed.”
He pointed out that Western powers appear to seek arms deals with regional states in exchange for oil.
Additionally, President Pezeshkian stated that Iran is entitled to pursue peaceful nuclear energy for various applications, including:
- Healthcare
- Industry
- Agriculture
He emphasized that Iran will not pursue nuclear weapons due to its religious principles.
The Tehran Dialogue Forum, taking place from May 18 to 19, features presentations from Iranian officials and international dignitaries, including:
- Ministers
- Heads of think tanks
- International specialists
This gathering aims to foster dialogue and address pressing global issues while underscoring the importance of mutual respect and cooperation among nations.
