Tehran, IRNA – In a heartfelt message, President Masoud Pezeshkian has conveyed his condolences following the passing of Pope Francis, the esteemed leader of the Catholic Church, who died on Monday at the age of 88. This significant loss has resonated deeply among Catholic Christians and admirers around the globe.

In his message, President Pezeshkian expressed his sympathy, reflecting on the Pope’s impactful life and leadership. He commended the Pope for his strong humanitarian stance against injustices, notably his unequivocal condemnation of the Israeli regime’s actions in Gaza and his urgent calls to cease the violence against innocent Palestinian women and children.

“The Pope’s principled stands will ensure his legacy endures among freedom-loving people and those with awakened consciences,” Pezeshkian noted. He continued, stating, “On behalf of the Iranian nation, which has always been a pioneer in establishing global peace and security, dialogue and solidarity among religions, I honor his memory, and ask the Almighty God to place the soul of that religious leader in His infinite mercy and in eternal peace.”

Additionally, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi shared his condolences through a statement on X. He wrote, “On behalf of the Iranian people, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the global community, especially the devoted followers of Pope Francis, as they mourn this profound loss.”
