Judiciary Chief Urges Unified Action to Combat Terrorist Groups

Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei emphasized the importance of collaboration among the justice systems of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states to effectively prosecute and punish terrorist groups and their supporters. This statement was made during the opening ceremony of the 20th Meeting of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the SCO in Hangzhou, China, as reported by the Mizan news agency, which is affiliated with Iran’s Judiciary.

During his address, Mohseni-Ejei highlighted several critical points:

  • Terrorism’s Toll in Iran: He noted that over the past four decades, terrorist activities have resulted in the deaths of more than 23,000 innocent people in Iran.
  • Global Threats: The judiciary chief warned that terrorist groups pose significant threats to international peace and security.
  • Call for Collaboration: He urged member states to work together to address serious global challenges, including terrorism, unilateralism, human rights violations, and organized crime.
  • Impact of Sanctions: Mohseni-Ejei discussed the repercussions of sanctions and unilateral actions affecting certain member states, particularly those imposed by countries that claim to champion human rights.
  • Gaza Conflict: He condemned the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza, pointing out that over 70% of the victims of the Israeli regime’s actions are women and children. He also criticized the freedom of some individuals involved in these atrocities to travel internationally despite facing prosecution in courts.

To combat pressing issues such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, cyber-attacks, and border misconduct, Mohseni-Ejei proposed several measures aimed at enhancing judicial cooperation among SCO member states. Leading a high-ranking judicial delegation, Iran’s judiciary chief commenced his visit to China on Monday to participate in this vital meeting.
