Join the Upcoming Iran Energy Efficiency Conference This December: Innovations and Insights Await!
Tehran is set to host the 4th Iran Energy Efficiency Conference (IREEC) 2025 from December 8 to 9. This significant event aims to address the urgent need for managing energy resources, optimizing consumption, and enhancing energy efficiency across various sectors, as reported by the vice-presidency for science, technology, and knowledge-based economy. With high energy consumption levels in Iran and increasing pressure on national resources, there is an even greater urgency to promote a culture of energy saving, leverage modern technologies, and boost productivity in all economic and industrial areas.
This year’s conference will focus on showcasing the latest advancements in energy efficiency and fostering collaboration between experts from both public and private sectors. Below are some key highlights of the upcoming event:
- Specialized Panels: The conference will feature dedicated discussions on energy optimization policies.
- Focus Areas: Topics will include energy efficiency in industry, buildings, and transportation.
- Exhibitions: Domestic and international companies will present cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions for energy optimization and efficiency improvement.
In addition to the IREEC, Iran is making strides in enhancing its renewable energy capacity. During the 29th meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Iran’s representatives emphasized the nation’s dedication to expanding renewable energy sources. This effort includes:
- Increasing Production: Expanding solar and wind power generation capacities.
- Strategic Implementation: Developing strategies aimed at improving energy efficiency in both residential and industrial sectors.
The 29th IRENA meeting took place on September 11 and 12 in Abu Dhabi, marking Iran’s inaugural participation. This significant gathering attracted over 400 officials from IRENA’s member states, which include 169 countries and the European Union. The conference aimed to provide strategic guidance for the Agency’s work program and address pressing global energy transition issues.
In August, energy officials announced plans to boost Iran’s renewable energy capacity to 7,000 megawatts by the next Iranian calendar year, which begins in late March 2026. This expansion reflects a significant increase from current levels. Jafar Mohammadzadeh, the deputy head of investment at the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), highlighted that the government is accelerating solar and renewable projects to achieve a substantial rise in output. He stated:
“Our goal is to raise renewable energy’s share in the country’s electricity mix from the current 1.5 percent to 15 percent by the end of the 14th government’s term.”
Mohammadzadeh emphasized that Iran’s vast solar potential supports this ambitious target. He noted that peak electricity demand typically occurs during summer, coinciding with high solar output, making renewable sources particularly valuable during these months. Furthermore, the government is promoting both small-scale and large-scale solar initiatives through attractive contracts, including long-term guaranteed purchase agreements, which allow investors to recover their costs in approximately three years.
To expedite the construction of large-scale renewable plants, some equipment imports will be necessary in the short term, with the Ministry of Industry, Mining, and Trade providing essential support throughout the process. This collaborative approach is expected to bolster Iran’s renewable energy landscape significantly.
As Iran prepares for the IREEC 2025 and strengthens its commitment to renewable energy, the country is poised to make considerable advancements in energy efficiency and sustainability. The upcoming conference will serve as a pivotal platform for sharing insights and fostering partnerships that contribute to a more energy-efficient future.
