Join the Fight: Celebrate National No-Tobacco Day and Embrace a Healthier Future!

TEHRAN – The upcoming National No-Tobacco Day is set to take place across the country from May 24 to 30. This important week will be observed with the theme ‘Revealing Tobacco Industry’s Tricks for a Tobacco-Free Generation’, aiming to educate the public about the deceptive practices of the tobacco industry.

Each day during this week will be dedicated to a specific subject, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the various aspects related to tobacco use. Below is the schedule of themes for each day:

  • Saturday, May 24: Determination, will, and public participation; victory over tobacco industry’s tricks.
  • Sunday, May 25: Culture, art, and media: exposing tobacco industry’s tricks.
  • Monday, May 26: Education and family health literacy; understanding tobacco industry’s tricks.
  • Tuesday, May 27: Committed and law-abiding professions; reducing tobacco products’ appeal and smuggling.

  • Friday, May 30: Faith-based teachings; protection against tobacco industry’s tricks.

In conjunction with this observance, a national tobacco prevention program will be initiated in approximately 40 regions across the country. This program, co-organized by the Ministry of Education and the Anti-Tobacco Association, will primarily focus on educating and raising awareness among students, parents, educators, and local communities. According to a report from the Mehr news agency, the program will kick off in schools during the upcoming academic year, progressively expanding to neighborhoods and urban communities.

This initiative aims to empower students to become active tobacco prevention ambassadors within their communities after completing training courses. The program is further supported by various ministries and organizations, including the Health Ministry, Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Sports Ministry, Interior Ministry, and local municipalities.

In addition to the National No-Tobacco Day, World No-Tobacco Day is celebrated on May 31 each year. Established in 1987 by the Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO), this day is dedicated to raising global awareness about the tobacco epidemic, highlighting the preventable deaths and diseases associated with tobacco use.

World No-Tobacco Day serves to inform the public about the dangers of tobacco usage, the unethical business practices of tobacco companies, and what the WHO is doing to combat the tobacco epidemic. It also empowers individuals worldwide to claim their right to health and promote healthy living, thus protecting future generations.

The theme for World No-Tobacco Day 2025 is ‘Exposing Lies, Protecting Lives: Unmask the Appeal of Tobacco and Nicotine Products’. This theme emphasizes the need to unveil the truth behind the tobacco and nicotine industries, which utilize carefully engineered products and deceptive tactics to attract new users while retaining existing ones.

Every day, these industries employ manipulative strategies that make their harmful products appear appealing, particularly to young people. Techniques such as attractive product designs, enticing flavors, and glamorized marketing create a false sense of security and evoke a sense of desirability among potential users.

To effectively combat this issue, it is crucial to break the illusion created by these marketing strategies. Stricter regulations aimed at removing the allure of tobacco products are essential for safeguarding both current and future generations from the dangers associated with tobacco use.

As we approach these significant observances, it is vital to foster discussions about the harmful effects of tobacco and to encourage community participation in promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle. By exposing the tricks of the tobacco industry, we can work collectively towards a healthier, tobacco-free future.
