Israel’s Divide-and-Conquer Strategy Backfires: A Complete Failure Unveiled

The recent exchange of captives for Palestinian prisoners has shed light on Israel’s military challenges in the ongoing Gaza conflict, which has persisted for over 15 months. This significant event underscores the resilience of Palestinian resistance and highlights the shortcomings of Israel’s military strategies.

On Thursday, Hamas facilitated the release of eight Israeli and foreign captives in Gaza, orchestrating the exchange with the help of numerous fighters from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad resistance movements. This exchange not only showcased the strong presence of resistance fighters but also revealed the failures of the Israeli army in its mission to “destroy” Hamas.

As the captives were transferred to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Palestinian communities organized gatherings to reaffirm their support for regional resistance. A notable assembly took place in Khan Younis, where Palestinians gathered to witness the release of two Israeli captives. Abu Yusuf, a 32-year-old participant, expressed the sentiments of many in the crowd, stating, “The resistance fighters are still here, alive, and capable of striking back. This whole exchange is a reminder that the occupation has failed to break us,” as reported by Al Jazeera.

The ongoing support for resistance movements among Palestinians has been reinforced, especially during the third captive-prisoner exchange since January 19. The gatherings prominently featured:

  • Portraits of Hassan Nasrallah, the late leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, who was killed by Israel in September last year.
  • Images of Abdel-Malik al-Houthi, leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah.
  • Photographs of Fathi Shaqaqi, the late founder of the Islamic Jihad.

During these gatherings, two women were seen waving handwritten signs expressing gratitude to Iran, Hezbollah, and Ansarullah for their support of the Palestinian cause. One of the women articulated the sentiments of many, stating, “We’re here to thank every nation that backed our resistance, especially Iran, [Lebanon’s] Hezbollah, and Yemen… But our people’s steadfastness brought us here,” while holding a banner that read, “To all who stood with us, our victory is yours.”

The large turnout of Palestinians at the captives’ release sends a powerful message, demonstrating that Israel’s attempts to undermine the resistance movement have been largely ineffective. The significant presence of Palestinian fighters and civilians has placed immense pressure on Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Since the onset of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023, Netanyahu has repeatedly vowed to continue military operations until Hamas is entirely dismantled. However, after failing to achieve its objectives, Israel signed a ceasefire with Hamas that took effect on January 19. This marked a significant turning point in the conflict, revealing the challenges faced by the Israeli military.

Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s former national security minister who resigned from Netanyahu’s cabinet in protest against the ceasefire deal, acknowledged the circumstances surrounding the captives’ handover in Khan Younis. He stated, “This is not a complete victory – this is a complete failure, in a reckless deal like no other,” emphasizing the ineffectiveness of Israel’s military strategy.

Following the release of the captives, Israel responded by freeing 110 Palestinian prisoners, including 32 individuals serving life sentences and 30 minors. This gesture, however, was met with mixed reactions. On the same day, Palestinians gathered at the entrance to the West City of Ramallah to welcome the released detainees, but Israeli forces intervened violently. Reports from Palestinian health officials indicated that over a dozen individuals were injured due to Israeli fire, with some suffering from live ammunition and others from rubber bullets and gas inhalation.

The exchange of captives and Palestinian prisoners on Thursday marked the third such event under a phased ceasefire agreement aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The conflict has resulted in over 47,000 Palestinian casualties, with nearly 900 Palestinians killed in the occupied West Bank since the conflict’s inception.

Ultimately, the steadfast support for resistance movements among Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza highlights the failure of Israel’s tactics aimed at creating division among the Palestinian people. The recent events have only reinforced the resilience of the Palestinian resistance and underscored the ongoing challenges faced by Israeli leadership in the region.
