Iran’s Security Chief Asserts: Nuclear Weapons Unnecessary for National Defense
In a recent statement, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, emphasized Iran’s unwavering commitment to its inalienable right to the peaceful use of atomic energy. He firmly stated that nuclear weapons do not align with Iran’s defense doctrine.
Ahmadian made these remarks during the BRICS security officials meeting held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday. His address touched upon various significant issues, including:
- The resurgence of a concerning narrative surrounding the Palestinian issue, characterized by phrases like “peace through power” and “coercive diplomacy.”
- The belief that true peace stems from justice and the acknowledgment of legitimate rights.
- The anxiety displayed by certain nations regarding the BRICS bloc’s potential to become a formidable economic, political, and cultural coalition.
Ahmadian highlighted, “Iran will not give up on its inalienable rights, including the right to peaceful use of atomic energy. Nuclear weapons have no place in Iran’s defense doctrine, as evidenced by reports from international watchdogs.”
Furthermore, he proposed several initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation among BRICS nations, including:
- The introduction of a BRICS digital currency and a secure banking messenger to facilitate intra-group trade and promote economic independence.
- The establishment of a supply chain security committee focusing on transportation insurance.
- The creation of an anti-sanctions corridor and a support fund dedicated to countering foreign sanctions.
Ahmadian’s remarks reflect Iran’s strategic vision to strengthen ties within the BRICS framework and advocate for a collaborative approach to security and economic resilience.
