Iran’s President Declares: Any Shift in Regional Geopolitical Borders is ‘Unacceptable’

In a recent statement, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran will firmly uphold its stance against any alterations to the geopolitical borders in the region. This declaration comes amid ongoing discussions with neighboring countries about fostering unity and cooperation.

Pezeshkian met with Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the president of Azerbaijan, in Tehran on Monday. During their meeting, he outlined several key points regarding Iran’s foreign policy and regional stability:

  • Preservation of Territorial Integrity: Pezeshkian reiterated that maintaining the territorial integrity of regional nations is a fundamental principle of Iran’s foreign policy. He stated, “Any change to the borders in the region is not acceptable at all.”
  • Call for Regional Unity: He urged for solidarity among regional nations, particularly in response to certain actions by external powers that may provoke conflict.
  • Strengthening Ties with Azerbaijan: The Iranian president expressed a desire to enhance relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan across multiple sectors, including economic, political, cultural, defense, and security.
  • Focus on Muslim Unity: Pezeshkian noted, “We want to develop relations with neighboring countries and Islamic countries because we believe that the emergence of any dispute and rift among Muslims will only invite external interference.”

In response, Hajiyev conveyed that Azerbaijan regards the Islamic Republic of Iran as a friendly and brotherly neighbor and is eager to deepen bilateral relations. This positive dialogue highlights the importance of collaboration in the region.
