Iran’s Commitment to Negotiations: President Pezeshkian Emphasizes Serious Pursuit of Agreement
Iran’s commitment to peace is evident through its participation in indirect talks with the United States, according to President Masoud Pezeshkian. During a cabinet meeting on Sunday, he reiterated the administration’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s nuclear achievements while engaging in international dialogue.
President Pezeshkian emphasized several key points regarding Iran’s nuclear policy and its approach to negotiations:
- Unwavering Commitment: The President affirmed that any speculation regarding the abandonment of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure is completely unacceptable.
- Peaceful Applications: He highlighted that nuclear technology developed by Iranian scientists has significant applications in agriculture, environmental protection, industry, and medicine.
- No Nuclear Weapons: Pezeshkian stated that Iran has never pursued nuclear weapons and remains opposed to such arms. In line with the Supreme Leader’s decree, the manufacturing of nuclear weapons is religiously forbidden.
- Principled Policy: The President stressed Iran’s principled approach to fostering peaceful interactions globally, asserting that Tehran is serious about the ongoing indirect negotiations with the United States.
“We engage in dialogue because we desire peace. Our country is committed to promoting stability and security in the region,” Pezeshkian stated. He also expressed that the nations in the region should coexist in harmony without external interference, attributing unrest to the actions of the Zionist regime.
Earlier on the same day, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steven Witkoff led their respective delegations in discussions that lasted several hours in Muscat, mediated by the Omani foreign minister. The focal points of these discussions included Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions—critical issues for both Tehran and Washington.
