Iran’s Bold Move: Over 1.2 Million Undocumented Immigrants Deported in 2022, Says Interior Minister
In a significant move, Iran has recently deported over 1.2 million undocumented immigrants within the last calendar year, a statement confirmed by Minister of Interior Eskandar Momeni. This decision highlights the ongoing challenges associated with unauthorized immigration in the country.
During a recent meeting in Tehran with governors from various provinces, Minister Momeni discussed the impact of undocumented immigrants on the local job market. He stated:
“We always emphasize our close relations, historical ties, and religious bonds with our neighbors, but we have no more capacity.”
Momeni further elaborated that Iran, like many other nations, has reached a point where it must take action against unauthorized immigrants. He explained:
“We have no choice but to deport undocumented immigrants, as other countries do.”
According to the minister, the deportation process is essential for:
- Restoring lost job opportunities for citizens
- Addressing the economic challenges posed by unauthorized labor
In addition, Minister Momeni revealed that the Iranian Parliament is set to discuss a new bill aimed at establishing the National Immigration Organization. This organization is expected to:
- Regulate issues related to undocumented immigration
- Provide structured oversight to manage immigration effectively
These developments reflect Iran’s commitment to managing its immigration challenges while maintaining its historical ties with neighboring countries.
