Iranian Students Triumph as Champions in RoboCup Rescue Simulation League
The Iranian team, Timrad from Khatam University, has made headlines by securing first place in the RoboCup 2025 Rescue Simulation League. This prestigious competition took place from July 15 to 21 in Salvador, Brazil, showcasing the prowess of their advanced scientific knowledge and technical expertise in artificial intelligence and robotics. The competition also saw Aichi Institute of Technology from Japan and the International Institute of Information Technology – Hyderabad from India take second and third places, respectively, according to IRNA.
This five-day event attracted approximately 2,000 participants from 40 countries, competing in various leagues including:
- RoboCup Soccer
- RoboCup Rescue
- RoboCup Junior
- RoboCup Industrial
- RoboCup @Home
- RoboCup Flying Robots
The RoboCup Rescue Simulation League serves as an educational and research project aimed at enhancing disaster response capabilities through innovative research and development. Its core mission focuses on two primary objectives:
- To create simulators that establish the foundation of the simulation system, accurately mimicking realistic disaster scenarios.
- To develop intelligent agents and robots equipped with the necessary skills to act as key players in disaster response situations.
RoboCup is recognized as an international initiative that encompasses the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, with a visionary goal: to develop a team of humanoid robots capable of defeating the reigning human World Soccer Champion team by the year 2050.
This initiative provides a vital platform for testing cutting-edge technologies in areas such as:

Originally launched in 1997, RoboCup was inspired by a historic chess match where a computer defeated the then-world chess champion, Garry Kasparov. Initially known as the Robot World Cup Initiative, it has evolved into a global research and education initiative aimed at promoting AI and robotics research. The event serves as a standard problem to integrate and examine a wide range of technologies, facilitating project-oriented education.
The Iranian participants in the RoboCup 2025 competition were the champions of the 19th edition of the RoboCup IranOpen, which took place from April 19 to 22. The IranOpen 2025 featured:
- 25 specialized leagues
- Categories including soccer simulation, rescue and relief, flying robots, technological inventions, and artificial intelligence.
Notably, this year introduced a specific artificial intelligence league, resulting in a significant 40 to 50 percent increase in participating teams compared to the previous year.
Recent Achievements in Robotics
In addition to their success in RoboCup, Iranian students aged 7-17 recently earned second place among seven countries in the Kazakhstan RoboLand 2025 competition, which was held from March 27 to 29 in Karaganda. This event drew participation from over 750 young inventors across various nations, as reported by the Kazinform News Agency.
The international festival featured:
- 362 teams from Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
- 23 competitive categories.
More than 2,000 children participated in elimination trials, with over 400 teams advancing to the qualifying rounds to compete in the RoboLand 2025 finals.
As part of the festival, roundtable discussions on the digital transformation of education were held, focusing on trends and prospects in digitizing the educational process. Participants shared best practices for developing STEM education, highlighting the importance of integrating technology into learning.
The success of Iranian teams in these international competitions underscores the country’s commitment to advancing in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence. With continued dedication to research and innovation, Iranian students and professionals are paving the way for future breakthroughs in technology.
