Iranian Delegation Set to Showcase Innovations at Indonesia Health Expo 2025
TEHRAN – The Iranian House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT) in Indonesia is gearing up for an exciting showcase at the upcoming 37th Indonesia Health Expo 2025, scheduled from September 25 to 28. This event, recognized as the largest medical exhibition in Southeast Asia, will highlight the latest advancements in the medical field, including pharmaceuticals, clinical laboratory equipment, and medical innovations.
The expo presents a unique opportunity for Iranian knowledge-based firms to exhibit their products and capabilities in the strategic Southeast Asian market, paving the way for enhanced international cooperation with industry leaders and healthcare professionals worldwide.
Prioritizing Self-Sufficiency in Medicine and Medical Equipment
The Iranian government has emphasized the importance of achieving self-sufficiency in medicine and medical equipment production. Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi stated, “We are striving to reach self-sufficiency for the supply of medicine and medical equipment,” according to IRNA.
Key points regarding Iran’s medical equipment landscape include:
- Medical equipment exports amount to approximately $20 million annually, reaching over 60 countries.
- More than 70 percent of medical equipment is manufactured domestically.
- Iran produces 100 percent of standard hospital beds.
- Over 95 percent of specific ICU and CCU beds and more than 85 percent of operating room equipment, such as anesthesia machines, are made using advanced technology in Iran.
- The country’s annual need for medical equipment production is estimated at $3 to $4 billion, with about $1 billion of that being imported.
- Approximately 600 medical equipment companies operate within Iran, producing around 99 percent of the domestic medicine supply.
- More than 10,000 types of medical equipment are produced and supplied to both domestic and international markets.
Additionally, Iranian manufacturers are now capable of producing laboratory equipment at prices significantly lower than similar foreign products, making them competitive in the global marketplace.
Global Recognition of Iran’s Healthcare System
In May, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) director for the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO), Hanan Balkhi, recognized Iran as a leading nation in enhancing its healthcare system and ensuring universal health coverage.
During a meeting with Minister Zafarqandi at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA), Balkhi commended Iran’s achievements, which include:
- Expanding primary healthcare services.
- Increasing access to health coverage in rural areas.
- Maintaining high vaccination rates.
- Reducing maternal and newborn mortality rates.
These accomplishments have positioned Iran as a successful role model in the region, as reported by the health ministry’s website.
Balkhi further noted that WHO EMRO is collaborating closely with Iranian regulatory institutions to achieve regulatory maturity level 3 in the pharmaceutical regulatory system. This collaboration aims to facilitate broader exports of Iranian health-oriented products to global markets and contribute to global health security.
