Iran Voices Opposition to Azerbaijan’s Recent Actions Amid Ongoing Protests

In a recent diplomatic engagement, Tehran has voiced its concerns regarding specific negative actions by certain parties in the Republic of Azerbaijan. This discussion occurred during a meeting between Mojtaba Damirchilou, the director-general of the Eurasian Department at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Azeri ambassador to Iran, Ali Alizada, on Friday in Tehran.

During their talks, several vital topics were addressed, including:

  • The current state of bilateral relations between Iran and Azerbaijan.
  • The potential for further development across various fields.
  • The need for both countries to implement existing agreements diligently.

Damirchilou highlighted the positive developments in Iran-Azerbaijan relations, emphasizing the importance of protecting their partnership. He condemned the recent immoral acts directed towards Iranian students studying in Azerbaijan, labeling these actions as detrimental to the two nations’ relationship. He called for accountability for those responsible for such behavior.

Moreover, Damirchilou stressed the high esteem and respect accorded to clergy and religious scholars in both nations, urging vigilance and decisive measures against any divisive actions or rude behaviors.

In response, Alizada expressed regret over the unpleasant statements and actions, assuring that he would discuss the matter with the appropriate authorities in Azerbaijan.

Both officials acknowledged the positive growth in their bilateral relations, particularly noting:

  1. The exchange of high-level delegations.
  2. The recent meeting of the Joint Economic Commission after a three-year hiatus.

They also explored avenues to enhance coordination and expedite the implementation of the agreed-upon programs, aiming to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
