Iran Urges Stronger Collaboration Among Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nations

Tehran, IRNA – In a significant move towards regional collaboration, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has announced that Iran is ready to enhance interaction and cooperation among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) across various sectors.

During a recent meeting with SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev in Tehran, Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among member states. He emphasized the crucial role of the SCO secretariat and the secretary general in promoting the organization’s dynamism on both regional and international stages.

Key points discussed during the meeting included:

  • Enhancing Economic Ties: The importance of improving economic relationships among member states was highlighted.
  • Addressing Issues: Araqchi pointed out the necessity of resolving issues among member countries.

Yermekbayev, who is visiting Iran to participate in the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2025, expressed satisfaction with his trip and the meetings at the forum. He conveyed hope that the consultations during the event would bolster cooperation among participating countries, particularly among SCO member states.

The SCO Secretary General also shared insights on upcoming programs and events scheduled for the organization during China’s rotating presidency. He emphasized the necessity of interaction and collaboration between the SCO secretariat and member states, particularly with Iran, and welcomed Tehran’s initiatives aimed at enhancing multilateral cooperation, including partnerships between the SCO and the BRICS group.
