Iran Shines at Baku International Book Fair: Celebrating Literature and Culture

The 11th Baku International Book Fair is currently taking place in the vibrant capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. Under the captivating theme “Techno-Human: Yesterday’s Dream, Today’s Reality,” the event showcases the rich tapestry of literature, culture, and technological advancements. Representing Iran at this prestigious event is the Book and Literature House, highlighting the nation’s significant contributions to the publishing industry.

At the Iran pavilion, visitors can explore an impressive collection of around 400 titles that span various genres, including:

  • Classical and Contemporary Literature
  • Children’s Books
  • Iranology
  • Persian Language Education
  • Scientific Works
  • History and Culture

This pavilion not only features these diverse literary works but also presents significant initiatives such as the Tehran International Book Fair, the Iran Book Grant Scheme, and the World Award for Book of the Year. These efforts aim to:

  • Promote the Persian language
  • Encourage international translation and copyright partnerships
  • Enhance Iran’s role in cultural diplomacy and literary exchange

Among the notable Iranian publishers represented at the fair are Candle and Fog, Nimaj, and the Seljuk Literary Agency. These publishers are actively participating in professional meetings and workshops designed to foster collaboration and share insights with international publishers, translators, and literature enthusiasts.

The Iranian delegation is also hosting several specialized and cultural panels that focus on significant themes, such as:

  • Translating Persian Literature into Foreign Languages
  • Showcasing Iran’s Publishing Capacities
  • The Role of Technology in Promoting Reading Habits
  • Strengthening Cultural Cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan

These sessions are designed to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among publishers, translators, and authors from various participating countries, paving the way for stronger international literary connections.

This year’s fair features an impressive lineup of 41 foreign institutions from 18 countries, alongside over 100 local publishers. Notably, Qatar is honored as the guest of honor for this year’s event.

Over the course of the exhibition, which runs for seven days, attendees can look forward to more than 220 events scheduled throughout various presentation zones, stands, and conference rooms. Highlights of the program include:

  • Master Classes
  • Book Presentations on topical issues like inclusion
  • Book Signings
  • Conferences and cooperation platforms for the book industry

Additionally, this year’s fair will introduce a dedicated “Children’s World” area, complete with engaging storytimes and performances, ensuring that there are reading opportunities for every family member.

Commencing on October 1 and concluding on October 6, this edition of the Baku International Book Fair promises an enriching experience for all attendees, celebrating literature, culture, and the importance of reading in today’s world.
