Iran Set to Showcase Eco-Tourism: Join the Largest Gathering This May!

Iran is gearing up to host its largest eco-tourism gathering on May 21, also known as “Ordibehesht 31.” This significant event will unite hundreds of eco-lodge managers, government officials, and international representatives to promote and celebrate sustainable tourism in the country. The initiative is a part of Iran’s recent recognition of May 21 as National Eco-Tourism Day, aiming to foster a greater commitment toward eco-friendly practices in the tourism sector.

Yavar Abiri, the president of the Iranian Association for Eco-Lodge Operators, has announced that the event will take place in Kerman province. This follows a missed opportunity in 2024, where no celebratory events were held, prompting organizers to plan this substantial gathering for the upcoming year.

The eco-tourism event is anticipated to attract between 500 to 700 eco-lodge managers from all over Iran, along with various government officials. Notably, invitations have been extended to foreign ambassadors and representatives from the UN Tourism, previously known as the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Among the distinguished guests expected to attend is the head of the UN Tourism’s rural tourism registration division, who will potentially lead a specialized workshop on registering Iranian villages for global recognition.

To facilitate the arrival of participants, a specially designed train operated by the private sector will transport 300 to 400 attendees from Tehran to Kerman. This train will feature unique decorations and cultural elements, making stops in historical cities such as Isfahan and Yazd. Passengers will have the opportunity to explore these cities, enriching their experience. Additionally, traditional performance groups will be on board to entertain guests, providing a vibrant cultural experience throughout the journey.

The event is backed by strong support from the Kerman provincial government, highlighting Iran’s dedication to eco-tourism and sustainable rural development.
