Iran Ranks Among the Top Ten Nations in Nanotechnology Research Publications!
In 2024, Iran has made significant strides in the field of nanotechnology research, publishing a remarkable total of 4,615 articles in top-tier Q1 journals. This achievement positions Iran among the top ten countries globally in nanotechnology publication, and it ranks 12th in terms of h-index for nano-articles. The following information highlights Iran’s prominent status in this rapidly evolving scientific discipline.
According to recent reports, the leading countries in nanotechnology publications are:
- China: 86,924 articles
- United States: 14,473 articles
- India: 11,194 articles
Interestingly, Iran surpasses other notable countries, including:
- England – 4,360 articles
- Japan – 4,022 articles
- Spain – 3,830 articles
The Q1 journal index categorizes scientific journals based on their impact, utilizing metrics such as Impact Factor, Scimago Journal Rank (SJR), h-index, and citation counts. This classification is essential for assessing the quality of published research.
The h-index, introduced by physicist Jorge Hirsch, is a key metric for evaluating the scientific impact of researchers, journals, and universities. It combines the quantity of publications with the quality of those works, emphasizing the number of citations received. This metric is crucial for understanding the influence of research in the scientific community.
Despite experiencing a decline in patenting nanotechnology since 2011, Iran ranks among the top 30 countries in this domain, holding the 27th position in 2024. Notably, the percentage of granted patents has increased from 19% in 2023 to 25% in 2024, showcasing a positive trend in innovation.
Furthermore, Iran has seen a slight rise in the number of published and granted patents, moving from 17% in 2023 to 19% in 2024. By the end of 2024, the country had published 364 nanotechnology-related patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and a significant 25% of these patents are in the nanotechnology sector.
Iranian Nanotech Journals Among World’s Most Cited
The Journal Citation Report (JCR) for 2024 recognized 161 Iranian journals, highlighting five of them as among the most cited in the nanotechnology field. Some key journals include:
