Iran Raises Alarm Over Rising India-Pakistan Tensions: A Call for Diplomatic Resolution

Tehran, IRNA – In a recent statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei voiced Iran’s deep concern regarding the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. He urged both nations to practice self-restraint during these challenging times.

Baqaei highlighted the Islamic Republic’s principled stance on several key issues, including:

  • Respect for National Sovereignty: Emphasizing the importance of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
  • Advocacy Against Force: Strongly advocating against the use of force in international relations.

He expressed that the ongoing tensions and conflicts between these two significant countries—who have historically maintained friendly relations with Iran—are a serious concern for Tehran. In his remarks, Baqaei stated:

“The rising tension and clashes between the two significant countries, which have maintained friendly and long-standing relations with Iran, cause serious concern for Tehran.”

Furthermore, he expressed hope that both India and Pakistan would:

  1. Prioritize self-restraint to reduce tensions.
  2. Avoid further escalation of conflicts.
  3. Prevent third parties, particularly the Israeli regime, from exploiting the situation.

Recent reports indicate that Pakistani officials announced at least 31 fatalities and 46 injuries due to the increasing hostilities between India and Pakistan. Tensions have been exacerbating since April 22, following a militant attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the death of 26 Indians. In light of these events, Pakistan has expressed its readiness for an international investigation into the incident.
