Iran Propels AI Education Forward: National Competitions Ignite Student Innovation

The Iranian Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, Hussein Afshin, has announced the continuation of nationwide artificial intelligence (AI) education programs for students. These initiatives are complemented by periodic competitions held throughout the year, aiming to enhance the understanding and application of AI among young learners.

According to the vice president’s office, over 440,000 students have registered for the initiative, with a remarkable 33,000 participants engaging in the first nationwide AI competition. Afshin described these figures as “only the starting point,” emphasizing that ongoing support for AI education is crucial for fostering a new generation of tech-savvy individuals.

Under the ambitious “Digital Iran” plan, free AI training is expected to reach more than two million students. This innovative program aims to introduce AI concepts in a relatable manner through games and interactive activities, transforming complex ideas into practical experiences that students can easily grasp.

In addition to student participation, more than 20,000 teachers are actively engaged in this initiative, benefiting from dedicated training platforms supported by the prestigious Sharif University of Technology. The national AI competition, held online, drew an impressive number of students from 398 cities and 653 educational districts.
