Iran Condemns U.S. ‘Humiliating’ Treatment of Migrants as Unacceptable

In recent news, the treatment of migrants, particularly Iranian nationals, has drawn significant attention. The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has publicly condemned the U.S. administration for its humiliating treatment of migrants, which he labeled as unjustifiable and a violation of human rights standards.

Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson, stated on Saturday that the Foreign Ministry is committed to supporting the rights of Iranian nationals. To this end, he mentioned that the ministry has issued essential directives to Iran’s Interest Section in Washington, D.C., as well as other diplomatic and consular missions in South America. These directives aim to provide assistance to Iranian nationals who have been expelled from the United States.

Key points from Baghaei’s statements include:

  • Support for Iranian Nationals: The Foreign Ministry is dedicated to advocating for the rights of all Iranians abroad.
  • Facilitation of Return: The ministry is prepared to assist compatriots in returning home and addressing any related issues.
  • Open Homeland: Iran is emphasized as the homeland of all Iranians, allowing for their free return.

Baghaei also highlighted that the U.S. administration has intensified the deportation of undocumented migrants as part of stringent immigration policies initiated by President Donald Trump, who began his second term on January 20.

On a recent Wednesday, a military plane transported 119 immigrants from various Asian countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Pakistan, and China, from the U.S. to Panama. This action followed similar deportations of immigrants from countries like Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil, where deportees were reportedly handcuffed and shackled. Such treatment has sparked criticism in the receiving countries, with many describing the actions as treating migrants like criminals.
