Iran Calls for Restraint Between India and Pakistan, Offers Support to Ease Rising Tensions
In a recent development, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint amid escalating tensions. Iran is keen to play a role in easing the ongoing conflicts between these neighboring countries.
Araqchi engaged in a phone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, on Friday evening. The two diplomats discussed the latest updates regarding the strained relations between India and Pakistan.
These tensions surged after a deadly attack by armed militants on a tourist group near Pahalgam in southern Kashmir, marking one of the region’s most severe terror incidents in years.
Key Highlights from the Discussion:
- Araqchi emphasized Iran’s strong relationships with both India and Pakistan.
- He expressed Iran’s readiness to assist in reducing tensions and promoting regional stability.
- The Pakistani Foreign Minister acknowledged Iran’s ongoing efforts to address the situation.
During their conversation, Ishaq Dar provided Araqchi with insights into the current status of Pakistan-India relations and dismissed India’s unfounded allegations against Pakistan, as reported by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
In a show of solidarity, Ishaq Dar also extended his best wishes to Iran for the upcoming third round of indirect negotiations with the United States, scheduled to take place in Muscat on Saturday.
Call for International Investigation:
In another significant development, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, has called for an international probe into the recent terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals in the region controlled by India. He asserted Pakistan’s innocence and expressed Islamabad’s willingness to cooperate with any investigation conducted by international inspectors.
Asif emphasized, “We do not want this war to flare up, because flaring up of this war can cause disaster for this region.”
This situation continues to evolve, with Iran positioning itself as a potential mediator in the efforts to stabilize relations between India and Pakistan.
