Iran and Niger Strengthen Ties Rooted in Islamic Revolution Principles, Says Vice President

Iran is actively enhancing its diplomatic and economic relationships with Niger and other African nations, aligning these efforts with the core values of the Islamic Revolution. This commitment was highlighted by First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref during his recent meeting with Niger’s Oil Minister Sahabi Oumarou in Tehran.

Aref’s remarks came on Tuesday morning as Oumarou led a delegation to participate in the Third Iran-Africa Economic Cooperation Conference. The Vice President outlined several key points regarding Iran’s dedication to strengthening bilateral ties with African countries, particularly Niger:

  • Serious Commitment: The current Iranian administration is focused on fostering mutual interests and enhancing cooperation with African states.
  • Significant Participation: The attendance of senior officials from Niger at the summit signifies a positive step toward bolstering relations.
  • Shared Perspectives: Aref noted that Niger’s stance on regional issues, especially regarding Palestine and Lebanon, aligns closely with Iran’s views.
  • Priority Areas: In response to Oumarou’s suggestions, Aref identified agriculture, oil, and sustainable energy as pivotal sectors for collaboration.
  • Private Sector Involvement: Both countries’ private sectors are encouraged to engage in joint projects and investments to elevate cooperation.

During the meeting, the Nigerien minister expressed condolences for the unfortunate incident at Shahid Rajaee Port and conveyed Niger’s pride in being invited to the upcoming Iran-Africa Summit and Expo 2025. Additionally, he extended warm greetings from Niger’s President Abdourahamane Tchiani and invited Aref to visit Niger on behalf of his government.
