Iran and Egypt Foreign Ministers Collaborate on U.S. Talks in Muscat

In a significant diplomatic development, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi of Iran and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, have engaged in discussions regarding the latest negotiations between Iran and the United States. These talks recently unfolded in Muscat, Oman, underscoring the ongoing efforts for peace and collaboration in the region.

During a phone call on Monday, Araqchi provided Abdelatty with insights into his recent indirect discussions with U.S. President’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff. The focus of these talks was primarily on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Abdelatty demonstrated Cairo’s support for the ongoing nuclear negotiations by stating:

  • Support for Nuclear Talks: Egypt is backing the discussions between Iran and the U.S.
  • Efforts for Ceasefire: Abdelatty detailed the challenges faced by Egypt and other mediators in reestablishing a ceasefire in Gaza.

Both foreign ministers also voiced their concerns regarding regional conflicts. They called for:

  1. Immediate Halt to Israeli Attacks: An urgent need to stop Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip.
  2. Addressing Aggression in Syria and Lebanon: A demand for an end to Israeli aggression and occupation in these areas.

Additionally, the conversation touched upon the broader context of bilateral relations between Iran and Egypt, highlighting the importance of cooperation in addressing mutual concerns.
