Iran and Algeria: Strengthening Ties for Enhanced Cooperation in Global Organizations

In a recent discussion, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi highlighted the importance of enhancing collaboration between Iran and Algeria. This partnership aims to strengthen their efforts within the international community and organizations, particularly the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people.

Araqchi shared these insights during a telephone conversation with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf. The dialogue focused on several key areas:

  • Bilateral Relations: Both ministers discussed ways to enhance their countries’ ties.
  • Regional and International Developments: They addressed current events impacting their nations and the broader Middle East.
  • Israeli Atrocities: Araqchi condemned the Israeli regime’s actions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as its aggression towards Lebanon.
  • Call for Islamic Unity: He urged for increased coordination among Islamic nations to prevent the genocide and forced displacement of Palestinians.
  • Nuclear Talks Update: Araqchi informed Attaf about the latest developments regarding indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States aimed at lifting anti-Iran sanctions.
  • Appreciation for Algeria’s Support: He thanked Algeria for its principled stance on Iran’s nuclear issue during a recent United Nations Security Council meeting.

In response, Attaf expressed his concerns regarding the insecurity in the region stemming from Israeli actions. He condemned the massacre of innocent individuals in the occupied Palestinian territories and stressed the necessity of decisive action from Islamic countries and the international community.

Additionally, Attaf extended his condolences to the families affected by the recent tragedy at the Shahid Rajaee Port explosion, expressing solidarity with the Iranian people and the government of the Islamic Republic during this difficult time.
