Hamas Strategically Counteracts Trump’s Controversial Anti-Peace Plan

In a significant development, Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza have responded to the U.S. proposal regarding the ongoing conflict, signaling a responsible and unified national stance. This response, which emerged after extensive consultations, is aimed at aligning with the interests of the Palestinian people while seeking an end to the brutal war that has plagued the region.

The resistance movements expressed their commitment to ensuring that the resilience and courage of the Palestinian people are rewarded with results that fulfill their national aspirations for freedom, independence, and the end of occupation. They urged all involved parties to take proactive steps to move forward in the peace process.

In its response to the U.S. proposal, Hamas indicated its agreement to release all Israeli captives, both living and deceased, under appropriate conditions for a prisoner exchange. Additionally, Hamas has expressed its readiness to engage in immediate negotiations, facilitated by mediators, to discuss various critical matters, including:

  • The prisoner exchange process
  • Disarmament
  • The ongoing occupation

The movement also reiterated its willingness to transfer the administration of the Gaza Strip to a nationally agreed-upon body of independent Palestinian technocrats, reflecting a consensus among Palestinian factions supported by Arab and Islamic nations. The Palestinian resistance emphasized that Hamas’s response represents a broader message to the international community: “The time has come for the occupation to leave our land.”

While U.S. President Trump’s offer to end the violence in Gaza has been framed as a potential pathway to peace, many argue that it risks solidifying the very conditions that hinder lasting peace. True resolution cannot emerge from political arrangements made far from the devastation in Gaza; instead, it must arise from a cessation of Israeli aggression and a recognition of Palestinian rights.

Palestinian factions accepted the U.S. proposal not out of trust in Washington’s intentions, which have often been viewed as insincere, but as a desperate attempt to alleviate the profound suffering faced by their people. The ongoing bombardments, starvation, and displacement have created a humanitarian crisis that requires immediate attention.

In the lead-up to Hamas’s announcement, the Israeli regime escalated its airstrikes on Gaza, targeting camps for displaced persons and resulting in civilian casualties. Such actions starkly highlight the futility of any claims to “peace” that are built on coercive measures and collective punishment.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, a tragic toll has been recorded, with “66 martyrs and 265 injuries” reported in a single day, as Israeli bombings continue to take a heavy toll on civilians. Despite this, Palestinian resistance operations have successfully thwarted the Israeli military’s objectives over the past two years.

Reports from Yedioth Ahronoth indicate that “as part of the Gideon Vehicles 2 operation, the Israeli army has not yet reached Hamas’s strongholds and targets in Gaza City.” For any genuine resolution to this conflict, it is imperative to dismantle the Israeli occupation and acknowledge the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.

Hamas leader Osama Hamdan stated, “We do not accept a foreign administration of the Gaza Strip, and an independent national body must be formed for this task.” Hamdan emphasized the need for a national Palestinian body, linked to the Palestinian Authority, to oversee the governance of Gaza. He also warned against attempts to exclude Hamas from the political process, asserting that such efforts would ultimately fail.

Furthermore, Israeli political sources have indicated that the announcement of a “halt of attacks” in Gaza does not equate to a ceasefire or the beginning of a withdrawal, underscoring the need for a genuine resolution built on justice, rather than temporary pauses in violence.

Hamas has not outright accepted Trump’s offer but has responded positively through mediators, maintaining a delicate balance between seeking long-term peace for its suffering people and conducting resistance operations that have inflicted significant losses on Israeli forces.

The Palestinian response has garnered international attention and positive reactions. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed satisfaction with Hamas’s response and commended the mediation efforts by Qatar and Egypt. Yemen’s Ansarallah characterized Hamas’s reply as responsible and realistic, reflecting a desire to halt the violence and protect civilian lives.

Additionally, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry highlighted that Hamas’s response signifies a collective desire among Palestinian factions to safeguard civilian lives. Egypt has pledged to work alongside Arab and Islamic nations and the international community to secure a lasting ceasefire and initiate a comprehensive political process aimed at regional stability.

Preparations are underway for a comprehensive Palestinian dialogue to address Gaza’s future following recent developments and Hamas’s response to Trump’s ceasefire proposal. Qatar has also begun coordinating with Egypt and the U.S. to continue discussions aimed at ending the violence and achieving a just resolution.

Jordan’s Foreign Ministry described Hamas’s response to the U.S. proposal as a vital step toward ending the war and its dire consequences. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged an immediate cessation of Israeli attacks and emphasized the need for urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza, asserting that the outcomes of ongoing negotiations must favor the Palestinian people.

Other global leaders have welcomed Hamas’s agreement to engage with Trump’s plan, viewing it as an important stride toward resolving the conflict. However, it is crucial to recognize that the Israeli occupation has been a significant barrier to peace, consistently obstructing efforts to withdraw from Palestinian lands and targeting civilians indiscriminately.

Given the devastation wreaked upon Gaza, the prospect of the occupying regime genuinely participating in any peace initiative remains uncertain. Only through the end of occupation and respect for Palestinian rights can a durable peace be achieved.
