Global Innovation Showcase: 65 Countries Set to Compete in 2nd International Tech Olympics in Tehran

TEHRAN – The second International Technology Olympics is set to take place from October 27 to 30 at Pardis Technology Park in Tehran, attracting over 1,100 participants from 65 countries. This exciting event will feature participants from various nations, including Pakistan, Oman, Vietnam, Tunisia, India, Turkey, Bangladesh, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and Romania. The event aims to showcase innovation and talent in technology, making it a significant gathering for technology enthusiasts and professionals.

Last year, the inaugural International Technology Olympics saw a remarkable turnout, with more than 6,300 participants from Iran and around the globe. This year, the number of elite Iranian students joining the competition has surged to over 11,000, according to Hossein Afshin, the Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy. This increase highlights the growing interest and investment in technological education and innovation within the country.

  • Programming Section: This includes leagues for Front-end development, Python/Django, Algorithms, and Golang.
  • Artificial Intelligence Section: Participants will engage in text processing, data processing, and image processing challenges.
  • IoT Section: Focus areas include smart system design, crisis management, and energy consumption optimization.
  • Robotics Section: Competitors will participate in lightweight, heavyweight, and student leagues.
  • Drones Section: Various competitions will cover autonomous missions, group flying, and flight intelligence.

The primary goal of the International Technology Olympics is to identify and nurture talented individuals, providing them with opportunities for training and employment both nationally and internationally, as noted by Afshin.

According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Technology and Innovation Report 2025, Iran stands at the 72nd position among 166 countries in terms of technology and innovation. This ranking places Iran within the upper middle-income category and marks an improvement of one position compared to the previous year.

  • Finance: Improved from 62 in 2022 to 56 in 2025.
  • Skills: Fell from 74 in 2022 to 82 in 2025.
  • Information and Communication Technology: Declined from 78 in 2022 to 94 in 2025.
