Foreign Minister Araqchi Heads to India After Productive Pakistan Visit
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has embarked on a significant diplomatic journey, traveling to New Delhi to engage in discussions that focus on strengthening Iran-India relations, as well as addressing regional and international issues. This visit marks an important step in enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations.
During his time in India, Araqchi is scheduled to:
- Meet with high-ranking Indian officials to discuss matters of mutual interest.
- Co-chair the Iran-India Joint Economic Commission alongside Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
- Review the progress of economic agreements between Iran and India.
Araqchi’s visit follows a brief trip to Pakistan, where he addressed rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations. This was prompted by a terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir last month. He has expressed a willingness to mediate between New Delhi and Islamabad to ease ongoing hostilities.
India has accused Pakistan of facilitating the militants involved in the deadly attack, a claim that Pakistan has firmly denied. The situation intensified on Tuesday night when Indian forces conducted airstrikes on various targets within Pakistan and Pakistani-administered Kashmir.
In response to the airstrikes, Pakistan condemned the actions as “unprovoked,” with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asserting that this “heinous act of aggression will not go unpunished.”
