Discover Zanjan’s ‘Mother and Child’ Tourism Tour: A Unique Family Adventure Awaits!
In a significant cultural development, 17 historical monuments have recently been added to the list of valuable historical and cultural monuments in Mazandaran province. This initiative was announced by the director-general of the Mazandaran Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department, highlighting the efforts to preserve and promote the region’s rich heritage.
As reported by IRIB, the Deputy Head of the Zanjan Tourism Department, Davoud Abian, emphasized that this cultural-tourism event was executed in collaboration with the Zanjan Tourism Department and the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies of Zanjan province. The primary aim of the program was to create an engaging educational and recreational experience for mothers and their children.
This initiative seeks to introduce children to the rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse tourism attractions of Zanjan province. The tour was designed to fortify family bonds within the context of cultural tourism, utilizing historically significant sites such as Rakhtshooy Khaneh (the washing house) to demonstrate that history extends beyond textbooks into the structures and spaces of daily life.
Abian remarked, “This visit is more than just a simple show; it provides visitors with a profound understanding of social developments through stories and historical artifacts.” He highlighted the importance of investing in the younger generation, stating:
- “If our children become disconnected from the historical and cultural attractions of their province today, they will lack motivation to preserve them in the future.”
- “Developing sustainable tourism requires active education from an early age.”
- “This mother-child tour stands as a successful example of merging education, family, and tourism.”
Looking ahead, Abian confirmed that these tours, focusing on various themes such as food tourism and family eco-tourism, will persist in the coming months. This approach aims to transform tourism in Zanjan into a comprehensive and ongoing activity, enriching the community and its visitors alike.
Zanjan, an ancient city founded by Sassanid King Ardashir I (180-242 CE), serves as a foundation for broader explorations within the region. Visitors can marvel at the architectural marvel of Soltaniyeh, explore the enchanting Katale-Khor caves, and discover the vibrant landscapes surrounding the province. Additionally, Zanjan is home to the UNESCO-registered Takht-e Soleiman ruins, further enhancing its cultural significance.
In January 2020, Zanjan was recognized as a ‘world city of filigree’ by the World Crafts Council (WCC). This designation followed a thorough assessment by WCC evaluators who visited various craft workshops, stores, exhibits, and bazaars in a two-day itinerary during December 2019.
Filigree is a delicate art form that involves curling, twisting, or plaiting fine, pliable metal threads and soldering them at their junctions onto a metal base. This intricate craftsmanship not only showcases the artistic heritage of Zanjan but also plays a vital role in the local economy.
In conclusion, the recent registration of 17 historical monuments in Mazandaran province signifies a vital step towards preserving the rich cultural and historical legacy of the area. Through educational initiatives and family-oriented tours, local authorities aim to nurture a sense of responsibility toward heritage among the youth. As Zanjan continues to evolve as a hub for cultural tourism, it is essential to remember the importance of connecting future generations with their historical roots.
