Discover the Secrets of Iraq’s Newly Unveiled ‘Underground Temple’: A Fascinating Arabic Translation

In celebration of the Sacred Defense Week, which takes place from September 22 to 29, a significant literary work titled “Underground Temple” has recently seen its Arabic translation published. This book, authored by Masoumeh Mir-Aboutalebi and featuring a commendation from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, is now available through Dar Temkeen Publishing House in Iraq. The original edition was published by Jamkaran Publications in Iran. “Underground Temple” delves into a lesser-known yet poignant chapter of the Sacred Defense, particularly during the tumultuous years of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988).

The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of a complex situation in the war effort, where Martyr Gholam-Hossein Rayat Rokn Abadi, a well sinker from Yazd, plays a pivotal role in Operation Fath al-Mobin. This story not only recounts the struggles of war but also follows the journey of a young man named Elias, who seeks to uncover his true identity beneath the soil.

Elias is portrayed as a disheartened and lonely youth, battling the negative perceptions imposed on him by his uncle. Feeling increasingly isolated, he grapples with feelings of inadequacy, exacerbated by the overwhelming attention from his mother that has diminished his self-esteem. Determined to prove his strength and courage, Elias embarks on a transformative journey, ignited by his encounter with Haj Gholam-Hossein, the well sinker who introduces him to a world that demands bravery and valor.

Back in January, a ceremony held in Rokn Abad Village, Meybod, Yazd province, unveiled the commendation for “Underground Temple” by Ayatollah Khamenei. In his remarks, the Leader praised the book’s subject as both noble and innovative. He stated:

“The theme of this novel is unique and innovative, and its writing is both delightful and captivating.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of addressing the peripheral yet crucial aspects of the Sacred Defense:

“Addressing peripheral yet crucial and influential aspects of the Sacred Defense is a necessary endeavor, which the eloquent author of this novel has accomplished.”

Ayatollah Khamenei also highlighted the contributions of the well sinkers from Yazd, noting:

“The contributions of the well sinkers from Yazd were highlighted multiple times by Martyr Sayyad Shirazi, a fact we were aware of; however, the importance, delicacy, and challenges as depicted in this book were not fully understood by us or others like us.”

He concluded with a heartfelt wish:

“May God’s mercy and favor be upon these artists wielding their pickaxes.”

The Iran-Iraq war, also referred to as the Sacred Defense, was initiated by former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein nearly 19 months after the Islamic Revolution’s victory. This conflict had a profound impact on Iranian society, galvanizing both military personnel and civilians to unite in defense of the newly established Islamic Republic.

The term “Sacred Defense” encapsulates the spiritual and patriotic essence of this conflict, underscoring the belief that defending one’s homeland transcended mere physical confrontation; it was indeed a spiritual obligation. As the narrative of “Underground Temple” unfolds, it not only sheds light on the personal struggles of individuals like Elias but also pays homage to the collective sacrifices made during this pivotal period in Iranian history.

In summary, “Underground Temple” serves as a crucial literary piece that connects the resilience of the Iranian spirit during the war years with individual growth and transformation. The book’s recent Arabic translation aims to broaden its reach and impact, ensuring that the stories of bravery, sacrifice, and identity continue to resonate with readers beyond borders.

As we reflect on the significance of the Sacred Defense Week, let us remember the stories woven into the fabric of our history, stories like that of Elias, who, through courage and determination, showcases the enduring strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
