Discover the captivating world of Aydin Aghdashloo, a renowned Iranian artist, at his solo exhibition currently running at B Gallery in Tehran. This exhibition showcases a diverse collection of paintings, sculptures, and print artworks that reflect Aghdashloo’s artistic evolution over several decades.

Curated by Takin Aghdashloo, the exhibition features 17 unique works, including:

  • Seven intricate print artworks
  • Three groundbreaking sculptures

The highlight of this showcase is the unveiling of three stunning bronze sculptures titled “Snow,” “Apocalypse,” and “Identity.” These pieces, making their public debut, draw from Aghdashloo’s established visual language and reinterpret familiar motifs found in his paintings.

These sculptures were created in collaboration with Art Mart and the Aghdashloo Foundation. They embody Aghdashloo’s distinctive postmodern perspective while presenting his intricate visual language in a novel format. Through these sculptures, he expands upon themes of rationality, identity, and human dignity, enriching his artistic philosophy.

Aydin Aghdashloo is celebrated as one of Iran’s leading modern and contemporary painters, recognized for his masterful techniques and profound artistic insights. His extensive oeuvre is heavily influenced by Iran’s complex political and cultural tapestry, while also engaging with broader global artistic and philosophical dialogues.

His artistic inspiration draws from a wealth of classical sources, including:

  1. European Renaissance masterpieces
  2. Persian miniature paintings
  3. Islamic pottery

Through these influences, Aghdashloo offers critical reflections on pressing themes such as tyranny, cultural decay, and the erosion of human dignity and beauty. His work not only showcases his technical abilities but also invites viewers to ponder deep societal issues.

The exhibition coincides with the launch of Aghdashloo’s first international monograph, published by the esteemed Italian firm Skira. This comprehensive volume provides an in-depth exploration of six decades of Aghdashloo’s artistic journey.

At 84 years old, Aydin Aghdashloo continues to make significant contributions to the art world as a painter, graphic artist, writer, and film critic. His portraits often draw upon classical Italian and Persian imagery, blending cultural references with contemporary issues.

The 304-page monograph is expertly edited by Marco Menguzzo and Takin Aghdashloo and is available in English. It features essays by notable art historians and critics, including:

  • David Anfam
  • Michel Dewilde
  • Marco Meneguzzo
  • Zahra Faridani

Additionally, the book includes a collection of twelve essays previously written about Aghdashloo by prominent figures such as:

  • Abbas Kiarostami
  • Dariush Shayegan
  • Bahram Beyzai

Throughout his illustrious career, Aydin Aghdashloo has held very few solo exhibitions. His last showcase was in 2014, making this current exhibition a significant event for art enthusiasts. Visitors can explore his works until April 10 at B Gallery, located at the Agora Building, No. 26, Eastern Tavakoli Alley, Ajudaniye and Aghdasiyeh Intersection.
