The first national congress on artificial intelligence (AI) in natural resources will take place on September 4–5 at Shiraz University, focusing on challenges in education, research, and applications in agriculture and the environment. Themed ‘Intelligent Technology, Green Land, and Sustainable Future,’ the event will feature over 30 lecturers discussing topics like precision agriculture, climate change, and sustainable practices. Additionally, a $100 million MOU was signed to enhance AI development in Iran, aligning with the national development plan (2023-2027). This congress aims to foster collaboration and promote actionable insights for integrating AI into essential sectors, supporting a sustainable future.
Oman’s General Director of Combating Drugs, Mohammed bin Saleh Al Gheilani, proposed a memorandum of understanding with Iran to enhance cooperation in combating drug trafficking. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently collaborated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences to strengthen Iran’s National Polio Laboratory (NPL) and National Influenza Centre (NIC). This partnership aims to enhance laboratory capacities and infectious disease surveillance. A WHO team visited on November 26 to assess operational needs and strategize improvements. The NPL plays a crucial role in maintaining Iran’s polio-free status, while the NIC focuses on influenza virus detection. Additionally, a workshop was held to bolster the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG), aimed at improving vaccine policy-making and public health outcomes in Iran.

At the Iran Corridor 2025 conference in Dubai, Minister Sattar Hashemi emphasized Iran’s readiness for collaboration with neighboring countries to enhance economic prosperity through AI. Despite sanctions, Iran’s fintech ecosystem thrives, and the nation ranks second in the region for AI research and developers. Hashemi proposed strategies to foster regional cooperation, including establishing AI acceleration hubs and enhancing academic collaboration. Iran’s strategic geographical location and skilled workforce could unlock new opportunities for innovation and economic growth across the Persian Gulf.
