Iran’s Foreign Minister Engages in Diplomatic Talks with Global Leaders in Muscat

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, recently met with key counterparts from Nepal and Oman, along with the spokesperson and head of the negotiating team of Yemen’s National Salvation Government, in Muscat, Oman. This meeting underscores Iran’s commitment to fostering international relations and enhancing cooperation with neighboring countries.

During the second day of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) in Muscat, Araghchi held discussions with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Deuba Rana. Here are the key points from their meeting:

  • Strengthening Bilateral Ties: Araghchi emphasized the strong relations between Iran and Nepal, expressing Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation, particularly in economic, trade, and energy sectors.
  • Sixtieth Anniversary: Nepal’s foreign minister highlighted that the two countries are celebrating their sixtieth year of diplomatic relations, presenting an opportunity to organize various events related to commerce, culture, tourism, and food.
  • Humanitarian Efforts: The minister thanked Iran for its humanitarian initiatives in evacuating Nepali citizens from Gaza and requested the continuation of these efforts.

In a separate meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Araghchi discussed:

  • Regional Cooperation: Both ministers recognized the significant roles of Iran and Oman in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean regions.
  • Strengthening Relations: Araghchi expressed hope that discussions during the summit would enhance relations among participating countries, especially in the sea-based economy.
  • Joint Agreements: Iran is committed to implementing existing joint agreements and exploring new areas of cooperation, particularly in trade and energy.

Al Busaidi reiterated the Sultan of Oman’s commitment to the historical and friendly relations with Iran, expressing optimism that these ties would continue to grow, contributing to regional stability and development.

Furthermore, Araghchi met with Mohammad Abdul-Salam, the spokesman and head of the Yemeni negotiating team. Key highlights from their discussions included:

  • Support for Palestine: Araghchi praised Yemen’s solidarity with the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
  • Commitment to Stability: He reaffirmed Iran’s principled stance on Yemen’s territorial integrity and emphasized that stability in Yemen is crucial for regional security and sustainable development.
  • Monitoring Developments: Abdul-Salam stated that Yemen is closely monitoring regional developments and the execution of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, indicating readiness for any actions against aggression.
