Yazd Hosts International Storytelling Festival: A Celebration of Global Talent and Cultural Exchange

The 26th International Storytelling Festival, organized by Iran’s Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA), kicked off on Saturday in Yazd. This vibrant event is a celebration of storytelling, bringing together a remarkable array of talents from around the globe, making it a key platform for cultural exchange.

This year’s festival has garnered significant attention, boasting participation from over 34,000 storytellers hailing from Iran and 25 other countries. The impressive turnout underscores the festival’s commitment to promoting storytelling as a means of connecting diverse cultures.

Among the international storytellers featured at the festival are:

  • Dimitris Prousalis from Greece
  • Maria Rubio from Spain
  • Giovanna Maludrottu from Italy
  • Shunsuke Ariyama from Japan
  • Chica Reis from Brazil
  • Ali Kalout from Lebanon

Additionally, storytellers from other countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Iraq, Syria, Algeria, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, India, Uganda, Congo, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Mexico will also showcase their talents during this remarkable festival.

A standout feature of this year’s event is the participation of the acclaimed storyteller Sara Kassir from Lebanon. She is leading workshops and performing, sharing her extensive knowledge and experience with attendees. Her presence adds a layer of depth to the festival’s offerings, making it even more enriching for those involved.

The opening ceremony was a momentous occasion, honoring recipients in various categories, including environmental initiatives, podcasts, and a unique 90-second storytelling format. The festival also features:

In a recent statement, Hassan Sadrai Aref, the secretary of the international section, emphasized the universal appeal of storytelling. He noted that the international category was introduced to the festival in late autumn, further enriching its diversity.

This year, the festival received notable submissions, totaling 70 works from 25 countries. After a thorough judging and evaluation process, 50 selected entries were chosen to be showcased, reflecting the high caliber of storytelling talent present.

As the 26th International Storytelling Festival unfolds in Yazd, its motto, “The Secret of Stories Shapes Life,” resonates deeply with attendees.
