Tehran’s Tourism Transformed: Discover the City with Exciting New Magazine Launch!
TEHRAN – The launch of the inaugural issue of “Tehran Didani” magazine took place on the concluding day of the 18th Tehran International Tourism and Related Industries Exhibition. This magazine, which translates to “Spectacular Tehran,” is designed to highlight the tourist attractions of the Iranian capital and aims to be a significant step forward in promoting urban tourism.
Several dignitaries were present at the event, including Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Hejazi, the CEO of the Abbasabad Cultural and Tourism Zone, who also serves as the Managing Editor of the magazine. Additionally, Anoushirvan Mohseni-Bandpei, the Deputy Minister of Tourism at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, was in attendance, among other notable figures.
During his address, Hejazi underscored the importance of small-scale gatherings such as this one in tourism exhibitions. He stated that the initiatives taken by Tehran Municipality to manage urban tourism have had a positive impact on both residents and visitors alike. He further explained that “Tehran Didani” is the culmination of extensive research and collaboration among media professionals and tourism experts. He invited journalists and critics to review the publication and provide their insights.
The magazine’s editor-in-chief revealed that the publishing license was secured last year from the Press Deputy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. The primary focus of the magazine is to document Tehran’s tourist attractions and urban tourism initiatives, aiming to establish itself as a long-lasting reference in tourism research and information dissemination.
Mohseni-Bandpei commended the Abbasabad Cultural and Tourism Zone for the launch of this specialized tourism magazine. He highlighted Tehran’s rich historical heritage and the plethora of modern attractions, which together enhance both domestic and international tourism. However, he pointed out the existing gaps in tourism development, despite the city’s vast potential. He advocated for better resource allocation, similar to practices in neighboring countries.
Fatima Karimi, the editorial secretary of the magazine, shared with the Tehran Times that there has long been a need for a dedicated publication focusing on tourism. She noted that Tehran’s tourism potential has often been eclipsed by its political, economic, and social significance. “With Tehran Municipality’s efforts to establish a tourism organization, the magazine has been developed with inputs from experienced tourism journalists to showcase the city’s attractions,” she explained.
Karimi expressed her optimism regarding the magazine’s impact, noting that the enthusiastic reception at the launch indicates a strong public interest in discovering Tehran’s lesser-known attractions. She promised ongoing efforts to shed light on the capital’s hidden tourism potential.
Other officials present at the event included Ahmad Alavi, the Chairman of the Tehran City Tourism Commission; Vali Teimouri, the former Deputy Minister of Tourism; Reza Shangi, the Mayor of District 20; and Alireza Tabesh, the CEO of Social Security Tourism Holding (Hegta).
Alavi emphasized that, despite boasting hundreds of historical and cultural landmarks, Tehran is often perceived merely as a transit point for weekend trips. He stressed the necessity for improved public awareness and infrastructure to promote the city as a viable tourist destination. Moreover, he advocated for relaxing restrictions on private heritage sites and historic gardens to encourage their preservation and enhance public access.
Tabesh highlighted the intention for tourism establishments to collaborate with “Tehran Didani”, aiming to distribute the magazine through travel agencies and hotels. He expressed hope that other provinces would take inspiration from this initiative and develop similar publications, acknowledging the need for a specialized discourse on tourism.
Tabesh noted that the title “Tehran Didani” serves as an invitation for exploration of the city’s attractions. He suggested that each issue of the magazine should introduce new sites to maintain reader engagement. Additionally, he proposed translating the publication into English and distributing it to foreign embassies and international tour operators to bolster Tehran’s global tourism profile.
