London Embassy Dismisses Telegraph’s ‘Absurd’ Claims on Iran’s Nuclear Program

The Iranian Embassy in London has firmly reiterated the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, countering recent allegations made by the British daily, the Telegraph. These reports claim that Iran is allegedly pursuing nuclear weapons, which the embassy categorically dismisses.

In a series of articles published over the past few weeks, including one on Saturday, the Telegraph suggested that Iranian commanders had urged Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to lift his fatwa that prohibits the use of nuclear weapons. In response to these claims, the Iranian Embassy issued a statement on Sunday via a post on X.

The embassy criticized the Telegraph for what it described as a “malign disinformation campaign” against Iran. The statement included the following key points:

• Rejection of Claims: The embassy stated, “The Telegraph has turned itself into an apparatus for a malign disinformation campaign against Iran. We reject all the claims and accusations it has disseminated on Iran’s nuclear programme throughout the past month, including the one published yesterday which is truly beyond absurdity.”
• Peaceful Intent: Iran’s nuclear program is characterized as “absolutely peaceful” and is part of the nation’s “national plan for scientific, technological and industrial development.”
• No Pursuit of WMDs: The embassy emphasized that Iran does not seek weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) due to its religious beliefs and national values.
• Call to Action: The Iranian Embassy urged the Telegraph to cease spreading misinformation and instead focus on the threats posed by the Israeli regime’s nuclear arsenal.

Furthermore, the embassy stated, “WMDs, in particular nuclear weapons, have no place in our defense doctrine nor are they allowed under our religious beliefs and national values. Please stop spreading lies and smokescreening the real and imminent threat to world peace, i.e., Israel’s nuclear arsenal, militancy and lawless behaviour.”
