Homam Festival Showcases the Unstoppable Creativity and Resilience of Individuals with Disabilities, Says Deputy Minister

The Homam International Festival for People with Disabilities is a groundbreaking event that showcases the immense talent and creativity of artists with disabilities. This festival demonstrates that physical limitations do not hinder artistic expression, as evidenced by the passion and hope exuded by its participants. The festival began in Tehran on October 23 and will continue until October 30, as reported by Mehr news agency.

Maryam Jalali Dehkordi, the Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, attended the festival and highlighted its significance in promoting creativity among disabled artists. The Homam festival is not just an exhibition; it is a celebration of empowerment and social inclusion.

Objectives of the Homam International Festival

This unique event aims to:

Support for Disabled Artists

In her address, Jalali Dehkordi discussed the support provided by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage for artists with disabilities. Key initiatives include:

  • Implementation of facilities and loans to assist disabled artists.
  • Dedicated sections for disabled artists at the Fajr Festival.
  • Exclusive booths for disabled artists at national handicraft exhibitions.

She acknowledged that one of the primary challenges faced by disabled artists is the lack of information regarding available resources and opportunities. To tackle this issue, the ministry is collaborating with the Technical-Vocational Organization and the Welfare Organization.

Handicrafts Value Chain Initiative

Jalali Dehkordi also revealed ongoing studies regarding the ‘Handicrafts Value Chain’ within the Government’s Cultural Commission. This initiative aims to:

  • Allocate specific sections for welfare and support for disabled artists.
  • Prevent redundant efforts in supporting this community.
  • Implement fundamental measures to enhance the overall welfare of disabled artists.

This year, the Homam International Festival has attracted over 200 artists from 13 different countries, showcasing a diverse range of creative expressions. Countries represented include:
