This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance cooperation between Iran and China.

Strengthening Scientific and Technological Ties

In August, Hossein Roozbeh, head of the Organization for the Development of International Cooperation in Science and Technology, met with Cong Peiwu, the Chinese Ambassador to Iran, to discuss ways to bolster scientific and technological collaborations. This meeting took place on August 24, following Ambassador Peiwu’s visit to the Tehran branch of the Iran House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT).

During the visit, the Chinese official remarked, “Iran possesses a magnificent civilization and is home to intelligent people who have made great achievements. The country’s history of technology development is glorious. Today, we are proud to witness Iran’s rapid technological advances in the modern era. China and Iran are two great civilizations with long histories, and the two countries have great potential for fostering scientific cooperation.”

Roozbeh emphasized the importance of accelerating scientific cooperation between the two nations, noting their long-standing history of collaboration in science, technology, economy, and trade. He highlighted that Iran’s science and technology ecosystem has significantly advanced, with more than ten thousand knowledge-based companies actively operating in the country.

Strategic Agreements and Collaborations

Roozbeh also referred to the memoranda of understanding (MOUs) signed by Vice President Hossein Afshin and Ding Zhisheng, the Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China, during the 2nd Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange in June. He expressed Iran’s readiness to implement the agreements reached during this crucial meeting.

Highlighting the strengths of both nations, Roozbeh stated, “China’s notable capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and Iran’s progress in this field will bring invaluable achievements to the region and the world.” He noted that the establishment of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) LabsNet would be instrumental in expanding scientific interactions on a global scale.

The two countries have also agreed to:

  • Exchange researchers and young scientists
  • Participate in each other’s exhibitions
  • Collaborate in sectors such as technology, health and medicine, environment, and agriculture

Furthermore, Roozbeh announced that Iran will inaugurate its first iHiT in China within the next few months, marking a significant step towards enhancing bilateral scientific and technological cooperation.

This engagement at the China Hi-Tech Fair and the ongoing discussions between Iranian and Chinese officials underline the commitment of both countries to foster innovation and collaboration in technology. As they look toward the future, the potential for joint ventures in various sectors is promising, paving the way for a more interconnected and technologically advanced world.
