The importance of self-sufficiency in medicine and medical equipment production is a top priority for the Iranian government. Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi emphasized this commitment, stating, “We are trying to reach self-sufficiency for the supply of medicine and medical equipment,” as reported by IRNA.

According to recent statements from the head of Iran’s Union of Medical Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters, the country exports medical equipment worth approximately $20 million annually to over 60 countries. This highlights Iran’s growing presence in the global medical equipment market.

Notably, over 70 percent of medical equipment and 100 percent of standard hospital beds are produced domestically, as reported by Abdolreza Yaqoubzadeh, the union’s head. He further explained that:

  • More than 95 percent of specific ICU and CCU beds are manufactured using advanced technology in Iran.
  • Over 85 percent of operating room medical equipment, including anesthesia machines, is also produced locally.

Yaqoubzadeh noted that Iran’s annual demand for medical equipment production ranges from three to four billion dollars, with about one billion dollars of this amount being met through imports. Currently, approximately 600 medical equipment companies are operational within the country, contributing significantly to the local market.

These manufacturers are responsible for producing around 99 percent of the medicine supplied to Iran’s domestic market, showcasing the country’s capacity for self-reliance in healthcare. Moreover, Iranian medical equipment manufacturers supply over 10,000 types of medical equipment to both local and international markets. Notably, various laboratory equipment is now available at prices significantly lower than their foreign counterparts.

As the 10th IranPharma Exhibition approaches, it promises to be a landmark event in the pharmaceutical sector, fostering innovation and collaboration that could shape the future of healthcare in Iran and beyond.

  • Class-Based Internet: How Iran’s Regime Uses Digital Access as a Weapon of Control

A deep analysis of Iran’s internet access reveals a class-based system exacerbating inequality and repression. The regime has created a dual internet landscape, where “white SIMs” provide unfiltered access to politically connected individuals, while the general populace faces heavy censorship and restrictions. This disparity highlights structural inequalities, as “white SIM” holders, including regime officials and select journalists, enjoy freedoms denied to ordinary citizens. The regime’s filtering policies have also fostered a lucrative VPN market, underscoring the intertwining of control and profit. Ultimately, this digital divide reflects the regime’s strategy to maintain dominance and suppress dissent, necessitating collective resistance for change.
